Flatlays

In 2018, I discoverd the concept of 'flatlays' on Instagram and started making and showing my own. It was a wonderfully freeing, joyful experience. My Instagram community at the time was a tiny, kind, supportive audience. The perfect setting to recapture my creative flow.

Flatlays helped me steer away from pressures around creating. They meant I could just play with the objects and materials I had gathered in my studio over time. It was a quick and light-hearted process; open a few drawers, search for a particular colour or material, arrange it, take a photo, and put it all away again.

No need for it to be 'perfect', no need for it to be 'finished', no need for it to be 'art'.

Just beauty. Just what I love. Just the objects themselves, showing their value.
