wooden box, string, bits and pieces  |  2020  |  19x30x14cm

This type of box, traditionally designed to hold shoe polishing items, is a fairly common vintage item in my country. The word on the lid, ‘poetsdoos’, simply means ‘polishing box’. The English title of the piece, ‘Polished’, has much further connotations (refined, accomplished, tidy, polite) than the Dutch word (cleaning, shining).
